Be Thankful Everyday
Be Thankful Everyday
Welcome to this week’s Mortgage Mindset Blog! This week we focus on how being thankful can for the good things in your life can fully shape your mindset.
Your 3 Mortgage Term Definitions for this week are as follows:
1) Closing Costs: Your closing costs are any costs not associated with the principal loan amount. Most common are an appraisal, lawyer fees, and if you are going on the “B” side of lending, there could be more administrative costs.
2) Compounding Frequency: The number of times the interest on a mortgage is calculated throughout the year. The most common frequencies
3) Credit Score: A credit score, called a Beacon Score by Equifax and Transunion is a numerical representation of a person’s credit. The higher the score, the better for your credit. Have a good credit score is crucial for a mortgage because it affects the rate. Basically, the higher the credit score, the lower the rate.

These blogs are all about building a positive mindset, and one of the most important things that I have found improves my mindset is remembering, and focusing on the things in my life that I am thankful for. This can take many forms. Some people have a journal, where at either the beginning or end of the day they write down all of the things they are thankful to have in their life.
That hasn’t been something I have explored up until now, but might be something that works for you. The one and only recommendation I will implore you to follow if you are interested in improving your mindset, not only for sales, but also for life is to find a system that works for you and stick to it. That is why for me, the most life changing book I have read is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It kickstarted this entire process by talking about the small changes you can make to improve yourself.
That is so important to remember on journeys like this. If you do one more thing towards improving yourself that you would have otherwise done then it is successful. Too many people think it has to be nothing or all at once. That is not true. When you have a mortgage, the interest is calculated in compounding periods. Think of self-improvement the same way.
One thing that I do in order to grow the mortgage business is make sakes calls to businesses and realtors in my local area. If I make one more sales call than I otherwise would, even if it doesn’t lead to something immediately it still moves my business forward.
Being thankful for the positive things in your life, and the progress that you have already made towards a goal is crucial. If you cannot acknowledge the progress that you have already made towards a goal, even if you’re not there yet, you will struggle to remain positive.
The point of focusing on the positive things that are already in your life is to give yourself something to fall back on when the times are tough. For example, say you have two really successful meetings in a row, and confirm two new sales.
Then you make ten new sales calls on the back of that positivity, and each time you are turned away. You still have the positive of knowing the process works because you already have proof that it works. You just completed two new deals. Even if it grows to one-hundred calls without success, you know the process works.
Let’s use a different example. If you are working on improving your mental health, and have been going to therapy for two years. You’ve been feeling good for three months straight. Then you have a rotten week. You can be thankful for the things you have learned in therapy, and that you are already doing things in order to improve your overall mental health.
Staying thankful isn’t about being thankful that bad things aren’t happening to you. For example, it is not “I am thankful that I don’t have a broken leg today.” You can certainly be thankful for this, having a broken leg is brutal. It is thankful for the things you already have. Here’s my list of things that I try to remember each morning. I understand that not everyone will have the same things on their list that I do. It is about having a list. Even if it’s one thing long right now, that doesn’t mean it
1) I am thankful to have such an amazing fiancée who supports all of my goals.
2) I am thankful to have a career that I love
3) I am thankful for my network of friends and family that are always there for me
4) I am thankful for the clients who have chosen me as their Mortgage Agent
5) I am thankful to have set goals in my life, and ne working to achieve them.
Some of you reading this may have more things on your list than I do mine, and some may have fewer things on their list. That doesn’t matter. The point is that you have found something you can be thankful for. That can help you on the days that are hard when you’re on a self-improvement journey. No matter what journey you are on, there will be hard days. That is just a fact of life. Being thankful for the positive things in your life is one impactful way to keep yourself on track to being the person you want to be.
We end as always with a book recommendation. This week it is Live Good Eat Good by Patrick Pinnock, which is available on Amazon.
